Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor

So something that caught my eye whilst browsing for some nice new shiny hardware is the Asus ROG Mars II.
Like alot of Asus high end products you may need a degree to actually pronounce the name of this particular product, but dont let the excessively LONG name put you off, this card packs some MAJOR punch.
What you get….
Unlike the very very, VERY poor GTX590 (which was due slower speeds needed to keep power consumption and heat at acceptable levels) the Asus GTX580 ROG Mars II doesn’t throttle the core or memory, leaving you with a very very fast card.
Included in this custom card is GTX580 cores running at 772mhz, 3gb of GDDR5 running at 4008mhz(1002mhz). In order to deal with the immense power needed to achieve these speeds. Asus engineered there own PCB with a 21 phase power design, and then in order to deal with the heat, Asus created a custom heatpipe copper cooler with twin 120mm fans (claiming to have an airflow increase of 600% over the reference cooler).
I can hear you all saying now, whats the catch…..
Well besides all of Asus hard work and clever design and engineering, this card is priced at a whopping $1700aud…….. And that is just to much, yes its great, yes it would have cost them a mint to make, yes its fast, but unless you have ALOT of money to burn your better bet is a pair of say Gigabyte GTX580’s for around $1100aud, save the extra $600 and put it towards a better cpu, motherboard, ram, HDD/SSD, monitor, headset, keyboard / mouse, food or even underwear.
Well that’s it from me today, thanks for listening.
